Student Government Association
The Student Government Association (SGA) at Central Methodist University is a comprehensive organization accessible to all students within the university community. Our primary responsibility is to guarantee that every student enjoys a fulfilling and enriching experience from their initial arrival on campus to the moment they graduate. Furthermore, the SGA plays a pivotal role in facilitating the organization of student-led activities and annually sponsors a variety of special events designed to enhance campus life.
Preamble
We, the students of Central Methodist University, in order to further the development of the ideals, character, and knowledge of our school and the development of its students, to insure a maximum of self-government based upon mutual respect among the students, faculty, and administration: to preserve and to promote the rights, privileges, and opportunities of CMU students, with the realization that an effective and responsible student government can best accomplish these aims; do hereby establish and ordain this Constitution of the Student Body.
Meetings
The Student Government Association (SGA) convenes weekly on Wednesdays at 7 p.m. in the Inman Lecture Hall. Meetings are held on an alternating basis between the SGA cabinet and the SGA senate. Cabinet meetings are exclusive to members of the SGA cabinet, focusing on administrative and strategic planning. Senate meetings, occurring on the alternate weeks, are open to the entire student body, providing a platform for all students at Central Methodist University to participate, share their ideas, and contribute to the decision-making process.
How to be an Active Member
To maintain Active Member status within the Student Government Association (SGA), students are required to adhere to specific participation criteria. This includes attending all but two of the scheduled senate meetings per semester and completing a minimum of five service hours. Students who successfully meet these requirements and are thus recognized as active members will be eligible for a $90 refund check at the conclusion of the semester, as an acknowledgment of their commitment and contribution to the SGA and the broader university community.
